On the Matter of Lembas
& Privacy
Hereunder is set forth, in plain speech, what is gathered when you pass through these woods, by what means, and what becomes of it. Read it as you would a map before a long road.
I.Who Keeps This Place
This site — derndingle.com (and its sister-paths .net and .org) — is a small personal hollow in the wood. If you wish to reach the keeper of this place, you may do so at hello@derndingle.com.
II.What Is Gathered
Should you accept the lembas offered upon your arrival, this site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand, in aggregate, who passes through Derndingle. The information gathered is modest:
- The pages you visit and the time spent upon them
- The land from whence you came (country and region, derived from a shortened IP address)
- The device and browser you travel with
- The path that brought you here (referring sites, search terms in some cases)
Your IP address is anonymised before it reaches Google’s halls. No name, no e-mail address, nor any token by which you may be personally known is gathered without your knowing gift of it.
III.If You Decline the Lembas
Should you choose to travel unburdened, no analytics scripts shall be summoned, no measurement requests sent, and no record of your passing kept beyond what your own browser remembers of having declined. You are free to walk the wood as one unseen.
IV.Of the Tokens We Keep
A single token is set in your browser’s local storage — named derndingle_lembas — to remember whether you accepted or declined the offer. It carries no personal information and expires after 180 days, after which the question shall be put to you anew.
If you accept the lembas, Google Analytics may also place its own small markers (cookies of the kind named _ga and similar) for the purposes of distinguishing one visitor from another over a short span of time. These you may sweep away at any moment from your browser’s settings.
V.Where the Embedded Things Dwell
A YouTube video is embedded upon the front page of this site. When you watch it, YouTube (a hall of Google) may place its own cookies and gather its own information, governed by Google’s privacy policy. Should you wish to avoid this entirely, simply do not press the play button.
VI.Your Rights as a Traveller
Under the laws of the European Union (the GDPR) and the Republic of Croatia, you possess certain rights over what is gathered of you:
- To know what data is held, and to receive a copy thereof
- To have errors corrected, or to have the data erased entirely
- To withdraw your consent at any time, with no need to explain
- To lodge a grievance with the supervisory authority — in Croatia, the Agencija za zaštitu osobnih podataka (AZOP)
To exercise any of these, write to the address given above. To withdraw your consent here and now, you may clear your browser’s storage for this site, and the question of the lembas shall be offered to you again.
VII.Of Changes to This Notice
This notice may be updated from time to time, as the wood changes with the seasons. The date of last revision is set forth below. Substantial changes shall, where reasonable, be marked plainly upon a return visit.
